Bolt-on vibration sensor
Idea“A sensor that bolts onto a motor and tells my phone when it starts shaking more than usual.”
It screws into a tapped hole in a motor housing by its M8 stud and measures vibration with a 3-axis accelerometer, sending readings over Bluetooth LE through its plastic cap. The body is machined metal, and a magnet held against the WAKE mark wakes it.

See it come apart
One turn around the design, while its parts move apart and go back together. Rendered from the design files, like the 3D view above. It isn't footage of a real unit.

What isn't done yet
- Its accelerometer is too slow to catch bearing faults. It can tell you the motor is shaking more, not why.
- How vibration travels from the motor to the sensor hasn't been analysed.
- The body is machined metal, so it needs a machine shop, not a 3D printer.
- No firmware has been written for it, and no unit has been built.
